Peter Kay has announced he will soon be hitting the road for his first stand-up tour in twelve years.

After years out of the public eye, the Bolton-born comedian will be returning to the stage this Christmas for a nation-wide tour spanning until August 2023.

Kay took to social media to announce the news last night (Sunday November 6th) with a satirical video of him moving a rug while discussing the upcoming tour and its dates.

He said: “It’s good to get back to what I love doing best, stand-up comedy, and if there’s ever a time people need a laugh it’s now.”

Kay added that because of the cost of living crisis, he has ensured his tickets will go on sale at the same price as they were on his previous tour in 2010.

Tickets go on sale this Saturday (November 12th) and will start at £35.

The tour will see Kay perform in major cities such as Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Belfast, Newcastle, Birmingham, Dublin, Glasgow, Cardiff and Nottingham.

His last tour was over a decade ago in 2010, which resulted in him securing the Guinness World Record for the biggest-selling run of all time, playing to a total of 1.2 million people.

Following the announcement of his upcoming tour last night, fans descended into a frenzy, with the comedian’s official website crashing due to overwhelming demand.

One Twitter user wrote: “These will fly out quicker than Glastonbury tickets”, while another commented: “Your websites crashed already… welcome back.”

This comes after the comedian performed a string of ‘top secret’ gigs at The Lowry theatre in Salford.

People heading into the secluded shows were allegedly made to hand in their mobile phones prior to the gigs, and had to ‘whisper’ which show they were seeing when collecting their tickets.
