Withington Walls‘ is a community project set up by We Are Withington with the aim to brighten up Withington village and cultivate a sense of pride and identity in the area with a programme of public art works.

We Are Withington is a collection of traders and service providers in the village including Wilderness Records, A Curious Collection, The Lock Inn, Solomons, Burton Road Brewery, Withington Baths and The Christie.

Their first venture is the street art project – and they’ve invited members of the public and businesses to donate to their Crowdfunder – with every single penny going towards delivering the project.

The ultimate aim is to provide a space for local artists to produce works of public art, helping push not just pride in the area but also improve and regenerate the area as a whole.

The art itself has already begun, with the team already enlisting ex-Withington resident @Aksep19, undoubtedly one of the best street artists in the UK if not the world, to create a homage to Withington-born Factory Records with a mural of Factory’s enigmatic art director and graphic designer, Peter Saville.

Similarly, a recent event – Withington By Night – also added key art pieces by Hammo, a freelance illustrator and mural painter based in the city who’s pieces you may recognise from his work with Alphabet Brewery, Parklike and on shutters in the Northern Quarter.

We here at Finest think it’s a great idea and something that we fully support. We’ve just pledged £100 to the cause – helping them in a small way to reaching their £5000 target. They’re around halfway there, so any help would be appreciated I’m sure. To donate – click the button below…
