There’s no denying the sheer brilliance of John Carpenter, a writer, director, composer and all-round mad bastard – whose run of oddball films through the 80s have become timeless classics – as well as helping to pay for Kurt Russell’s multiple mortgages.

Everyone has their favourite John Carpenter movie, and there’s certainly plenty to choose from in his illustrious career. There’s Dark Star, Escape from New York, The Fog, Assault on Prescient 13, Halloween, Christine, Starman, They Live, Big Trouble in Little China, In the Mouth of Madness and plenty more.

It was only a matter of time until Manchester’s indie cinema – The Chapeltown Picture House – decided to do an all-dayer on Carpenter, and here it is; THE HOUSE OF CARPENTER taking place on Saturday 24th September from 2pm.

Big Trouble in Little China

They Live

They’ve got four films lined up, kicking things off with the film that started the collaboration between John and Kurt, the grungy sci-fi thriller ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK (1981) before jumping ahead to their team-up on BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA (1986).

After a short break, where you can sample some of the delightful street food vendors of GRUB, they’ll be back with the, unfortunately, more relevant than ever, THEY LIVE (1988) and closing out the night will be the last true classic of Carpenter’s career (so far), the postmodern nightmare, IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS (1994).

It’s £5 for each movie, or £16.50 for a Day Pass to watch all four. Get your tickets here:ef3w2
