Alternative Manchester Pride Festival 2020
This year’s Pride Festival is something that they’ve never done before – mostly because they’ve never actually had to – it’s going virtual. Spanning three days across a spectrum of platforms such as online streams, radio, digital and social media and more, the Alternative Festival will feature exclusive artist performances, Q&A’s, workshops, cinema, art and LOADS more.
Superbia Sunday
Part of the Alternative Manchester Pride celebrations, our friends over at Superbia will be taking over the Sunday with a host of events over the course of 3 hours. Specialising in arts and culture from the LGBTQ++ community, the programme will see a Superbia Gallery, a presentation of 6 Short Films, Artists in Conversation and more.
Manchester Pride Candleit Vigil
The Candlelit Vigil brings Manchester Pride Festival to a close each year, with a moment of reflection in Sackville Gardens. This year Manchester Pride will stream the Vigil online so that as many people as possible can be part of it. It will also be broadcast on BBC Radio Manchester and Gaydio. Join the Vigil live stream by lighting a candle, writing down a message of hope or creating a heart and join through Zoom (link provided on the day of the Vigil) for a chance to appear on screen. This special show will feature a minute of silence to remember those lost to HIV as LGBTQ+ people join together to fight the epidemic worldwide, and the stigma that still exists.
Come As You Are Weekender at The Refuge
The biggest party of the year isn’t going to let some silly little COVID virus get in the way of everyone having a bloody good time. Oh no. A socially distanced safe gathering over 3 days and nights featuring the likes of Luke Unabomber, Gina Breeze, Will Tramp, Paulette, High Hoops, Supernature Disco and loads more – all curated over by Cheddar Gorgeous and Anna Phylactic. It’ll be a good one this.
MCR Queer Power @ Escape to Freight Island
Escape to Freight Island as they announces a five-day explosion of Manchester’s Queer Power bank holiday special from the 26th to 31st August, all happening at Platform 15. The proudly queer-friendly venue is introducing its in-house drag, dining and DJ residency ‘Amuse Bouche’ – an immersive concept like no other, a delicious and delectable tasting platter of Manchester’s finest performance talent and DJ collectives to entertain the mouth, ears and eyes. Plus, Homoelectric takeover as the ultimate end to the weekender.
Escape to Freight Island Homoelectric Balearic Takeover
Brand spanking new to Manchester is Escape to Freight Island and they’re playing host to Finest favourite, Homoelectric for a huge socially-distant bank holiday. It’s set to be very different to normal with strictly no ravers or misbehavers. AND you’ll be able to take your kids or dogs! It’s just a fiver per person and you can book up to six people on your table which you can keep for two hours and 45 mins, plenty of time to drink and eat to your hearts content.
Live Streaming of Alternative Manchester Pride Festival at KAMPUS
Elements of this year’s Pride Festival will be streaming live from KAMPUS this August bank holiday weekend. Due to the pandemic and the increased restrictions in place across many of the ten boroughs of Greater Manchester, the charity will be delivering three days of online content and will set up a live studio in the Bungalow at KAMPUS to record live links and bring together content throughout the day.
