Smolensky Gallery officially opens its doors inside the ABC Building, Spinningfields this Friday 28th April. The gallery aims to “disrupt the current underwhelming Manchester gallery scene” by showcasing a variety of artists that aim to challenge and inspire. The space will feature a diverse range of styles, including both established and up-and-coming talents – providing a one-of-a-kind space for artists to showcase their work and push the boundaries of creativity.
To celebrate the launch of the new gallery, the debut show, UNITY, will take place this Friday, featuring art from 22 Manchester-based artists. Attendees will have the chance to rub shoulders with those behind the art, as some of the featured creatives will be at the gallery to chat through their artistic approach and inspiration. The event runs from 6-8pm with a complimentary drink on arrival and live music from John Haycock and Pablo Blanquito, and will provide an opportunity to learn more about the vision of the gallery.
“I am thrilled to be re-homing the gallery in the ABC Building,” said Joe Wilson, Gallery owner. “I believe that art is a form of magic and has the power to evoke emotion, spark conversation, and bring people together. I hope that the gallery will become a hub for the local community and a destination for art lovers across the UK.”
Smolensky will be the first gallery in the city to have a screen exhibiting digital artwork which will always be accompanied by a physical release. Alongside this, you will also be able to view the gallery virtually online, meaning you can experience the current showcase from the comfort of your own home. They’ll also be putting on monthly parties in the dom on the rooftop of the ABC building under ‘House of Art’ combining poetry music, live art, dance and comedy.
Artists Exhibiting in the opening show include:
Iain H Williams, a contemporary painter from the North of England, known for his bold visual language and exploration of abstract imagery.
Kevin Cummins, a renowned British photographer who has captured iconic musicians like Joy Division, Sex Pistols, and Mick Jagger.
Lazerian (Liam Hopkins), a multidisciplinary creative studio that creates large-scale artworks, public installations, and bespoke designs.
Layne Rowe, a glass artist who combines colour, form, and surface pattern to create captivating works of art.
Marcus Method, a Sheffield-based artist who blends architectural principles with graffiti techniques to produce a unique, colourful style.
Piicasa aka Callum Simmons, an abstract painter inspired by nature and the urban environment of Manchester, using precise shapes and forms in his work.
Perspicere, an artist who creates ephemeral thread-based installations that play with colour, light, and perspective.
Reesha, a Manchester-based artist whose bold digital-inspired colours guide the narrative in his artwork.
Sebastiaan Knot, a Dutch visual artist who captures unique moments of light, shadow, and colour in his photographs.
Sven, a French graffiti artist known for his readable, rounded letters and colorful work on both traditional and unexpected surfaces.
Tankpetrol, a Polish street artist based in Manchester who uses intricate stencils and mixed media to create complex, detailed works.
