Running from 2nd – 13th November 2022, this year’s Green Film Festival takes place at HOME with its official programme made up of five films, four of which have been directed by women, and three UK exclusive premieres.
The programme brings together films from all over the world – from Canada to Brazil. The North Drift, directed by Steffen Krones, takes the audience to a remote Arctic island on a journey of personal curiosity.
Black Mambas, by Lena Karbe, explores the first all-female anti-poaching unit, standing at the crossroads of progress and a colonial past. The Wind Blows the Border, from Laura Faerman & Marina Weis is set on Brazil’s violent borderlands, following the growth of ruralist political power, and the intimacy of indigenous female resistance.
Tigre Gente, directed by Elizabeth Unger, shares the story of a Bolivian park ranger and a young journalist from Hong Kong, who risk their lives to investigate a new, deadly jaguar trade sweeping South Africa. Lastly, Forest for the Trees, by Rita Leistner weaves together photography and film to tell the story of a community of Canadian west coast tree planters.
Tom Vaughan, festival director said: “It’s been exciting to put the programme together for our 10th year of the UK Green Film Festival. We always want to put important environmental issues at the forefront of our audience’s mind, and we’re really proud of this year’s line-up. We love championing incredible film-making talent and we’re especially delighted that four out of the five films on the programme are directed by women.
“It’s great that three of the films will have their UK premiere over the course of the festival too, demonstrating how important our audiences are to the film industry.”
