Years after trial and punishment, each one of them was given the chance to meet the person on the other side. The Listening Room is about what happened when they said yes.

Here in the UK, 70% of those in prison re-offend within the first year of their release. One reason for this is the separation between victims and offender which leaves things unsaid, questions unanswered and voices unheard for the sufferers.

For those who commit the crime, it is often a way to disassociate from the trauma their actions caused – which is why they often re-offend.

However, over the past two years, the government has pumped money into the restorative justice system where it is now possible for victims and offenders of even the most serious crimes to meet face to face.

The aim of this is to provide closure for victims and to reduce reoffending rates by starkly demonstrating the true ripple of effects of violent crime in the lives of victims and their families.

The Listening Room is the story of five people who said yes to meeting the person on the other side in an emotional, troubling and unforgettable stage show.
