This weekend at Manchester’s Whitworth Art Gallery, Black Gold Arts, an organisation focused on working with predominantly working-class people of colour, is hosting a huge celebration of art, music and community.

The two-day festival will showcase the current, very best live music, DJs, dance, performance, fashion and catwalk all for FREE at one of Manchester’s most picturesque art spaces.

Hosted by director and choreographer, Rikki Beadle Blair and Lovescene’s Pops Roberts, the festivities will kick off at 11am on Saturday and will see the day explode into a delightful celebration of local and national black and POC artists.

Vogue ballroom house, House of Blaque will take to the stage to perform at the ‘Queer Carnival’, alongside a Catwalk Extravaganza, which sees four incredibly talented dancers and choreographers strut their stuff on the runway.

There’ll also be DJ sets from Manchester-based legend, Mix Stress, as well as DJ Stacy Bee, DJ Stan and live sets from other local musicians and performers including; LayFullStop, Mandla, Lady Bushra and The Bollywitch, amongst others.

Black Gold Arts aims to get often overlooked stories and voices celebrated through the medium of film, visual art, music, dance or anything relevant to the artist’s medium. Its work educates and entertains communities in both conventional and unconventional settings.

The takeover this weekend will start at 11am and run until 7pm. There’ll also be an array of local food traders serving up a range of cross continent dishes and flavours including; Yardies Jamaican Street Food, Mi & Pho Vietnamese Street Food, Istanbul’s Kitchen Turkish Street Food, Dough So Good Pizzeria and Grandpa Greene’s sweet treat and ice creams.
