The ceremony in which restaurants are awarded the new Michelin stars for 2024 will be held in Manchester.

It will happen on Monday 5 February at the Midland Hotel, where the chefs in the running for stars will be invited from all over the UK.

It’s the first time that the ceremony has been held in Manchester in the history of the Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland.

Gwendal Poullennec, international director of The Michelin Guides, said: “We are honoured to be bringing our celebration of the finest British and Irish gastronomy to the welcoming and ever-evolving city of Manchester.

“The historic Midland Hotel – a long-standing jewel in the city’s architectural crown – is a venue befitting of the occasion.

“The MICHELIN Guide team are busy preparing an event that will do justice to the exceptional skill, dedication and hard work found across our industry.”

Where The Light Gets In

As well as the standard Michelin stars, awarded for culinary excellence, the Michelin’s new Green stars will also be awarded, celebrating restaurants focussing on their environmental impact and sustainability.

Awards for specialist achievements will also be handed out on the night.

Manchester currently has just one Michelin-starred restaurant, Simon Martin’s mana in Ancoats, which landed its star in 2019, and has held it ever since.

Stockport’s Where The Light Gets In was awarded a green star in 2021, and has been tipped for its first star ever since.

Adam Reid at The French, which is coincidentally to be found at the Midland Hotel, has also been tipped for a star in the past, while newcomer Higher Ground could also be in the running.
