Born in Leeds, Emma moved to Manchester to study fashion at Man Met where she Instantly fell in love with the city. She now considers herself a fiercely proud Mancunian.
For 15 years she worked as a commercial fashion designer for the UK high street. From managing sample rooms in Nanjing (China) to sourcing new factories in Morocco and collaborating with established factories in Hong Kong, India, China, Bangladesh & Sri Lanka.
Her work has given Emma a depth of experience working cross channels in many different cultural environments which has had a massive influence on her work.
Emma started her professional art journey in early 2018 and she tells us it has been absolutely liberating to find herself creating art with no strict commercial brief. She now has complete freedom to design her works as she wishes – and we sure love her for it.
Her style is mainly colourful, bold and abstract. Inspired by her experience in working in all these amazing countries, Emma is obsessed with travelling, constantly wandering, exploring new stuff, art, food and culture.
Her travels are a big inspiration to the work, and she always travels with a sketchbook doodling along the way which she will often then transcribe into her larger scale work.
Emma has created a stunning new doodle-mural at Dog Bowl this week on the glass divider between the lanes and the dining space. It is filled with cartoon bowling pins, anthropomorphic burgers and lots of other weird and wonderful doodles!
You are going to love it – so be sure to check it out when you are next down at Dog Bowl!
