Gin has been absolutely smashing it recently, despite its reputation of being solely aimed at lonely old women in the 1890’s. It’s popularity has sky rocketed – probably due to the massive increase in local distilleries who have started making their own concoctions and the various cocktail bars who have developed something more interesting than just Schweppes tonic to go with it. Places like Cottonopolis, Atlas and Gorilla have Gin lists longer than Mr Tickle’s arms and the trend looks set to continue with the brilliant Manchester Gin.

The brain child of Sebastian Heeley and Jennie Wiggins, Manchester Gin is the perfect balance of dryness and citrus, spicy and sweet that creates a unique mellow characteristic that you can only get with small batch spirits. The gin is distilled in a ‘Wendy’ copper column still and even features a hint of Manchester with the addition of two key botanicals – Dandelion & Burdock root.

In celebration of their first birthday, the Manchester Gin lot have decided to offer the legendary people of this city some FREE gin. Yes, the only reason you clicked on this article is coming up. Every day next week the brand will be running a Great Manchester Gin Trail on their Facebook page, simply find them at a local hotspot at 1pm each day to get exclusive edition bottles of their gin!

On top of this, they will be hosting a gin-fuelled anniversary party on Thursday 11th May at the brand new Behind Closed Doors on Oldham Street. This sexy, sleazy bar is certain to be one of the city’s most interesting hidden bars, and with the added ingredient of gin – is sure to be a corker.
