8 of the Freshest Mojitos in Manchester

Okay so they take around 10 minutes to make, which when you are at a busy bar, is the most annoying thing ever. But Mojitos are a cracking drink - not only are they refreshing and perfect for a Summer's day but they tend to get you sufficiently drunk and merry. Everyone loves a bit of mint too. Check out our favourites below...

Albert’s Schloss
Probably one of the best places in the city to drink anything, Albert’s Schloss rather conveniently make a cracking Alpine Rose Mojito that you can happily enjoy whilst watching some mental stage show and scoffing a schnitzel. It’s a bit of an obscure choice but the addition of rose petal liqueur is a revelation that makes this already rather fresh cocktail even fresher. It’s like drinking spring meadow river water that’s been filtered through a sheet of Bounce – but in a totally non-poisonous and more delicious way.

El Capo
The crew over at El Capo have managed to put their own little Mexican twist on the mojito in the form of their Tangarina – a tequila, lime and mint concoction that probably can’t be classed as an official mojito but which is close enough and fit enough to make the cut. In addition to the aforementioned tequila and mint, they also add some lovely tangerine juice – which isn’t as tart as the orange, as sweet as the mandarin or as pathetic as the clementine. Whether you’re having a dance on a Friday night or tucking into some Tacos on a Tuesday, this beaut is a winner.

The Alchemist
As usual with these lists of our favourite cocktails, the Alchemist is here and banging out some cracking (and usually bat-shit crazy) drinks. They offer a plethora of Mojito flavours including Original™, raspberry, strawberry, bubble-gum and whatever else they feel like making on any particular day. I’ve personally consumed both the raspberry one and the bubble-gum one and can confirm that they are both delicious and very strong. The bubble-gum one might make your teeth ache though.

Luck Lust Liquor and Burn
As well as making vast amounts of burritos smothered in cheese, salsa and whatever they find at the back of the fridge, Luck Lust Liquor & Burn also have a rather impressive drinks list. There’s plenty of cocktails to choose from, of which I would highly recommend their Lagerita. I could drink 20 of those sexy buggers and still come back for more. But we’re here to talk about mojitos and their Mango and Raspberry Sherbet number is definitely a winner. Just adding the sherbet to it elevates the drink to a higher plane – which is probably true of anything you add sherbet too in all honesty.

The Font
There’s almost too many drinks to choose from when you’re in Font. Not only do they always have a top-notch selection of beers, ales and ciders but their cocktail menu is legendary amongst anyone who has either been a student, knows one or has seen one in the street. They do a Sailor Jez Mojito in here which is packed with Sailor Jerry’s Spiced Rum and topped with some proper Old Jamaica Ginger Beer and it’s fantastic. It’s only £4.50 too which is around 1/3 the price of every other drink on this list.

If you fancy something a little bit stronger than prosecco to go with your fish, Australasia have you covered with their Pineapple & Coconut Mojito. Two of the most complimentary fruits there is – the pineapple and coconut go together like Han Solo & Chewbacca, like Zig & Zag, like Ant & Dec, well you get the idea. You’ll be instantly transported to childhood; stood outside the corner shop downing a tin of Lilt as fast as possible as you neck this bad boy. It’s packed with Bacardi, Koko Kanu, pineapple puree and coconut cream. Mega.

Australasia, The Avenue, Spinningfields, Manchester M3 3AP

With excessive levels of mint in one drink, it comes as no surprise that a place named Allotment makes a truly brilliant Mojito in the form of their special Pomegranate & Ginger number. They get some mint and lime, mash it all together and then add Kraken Spiced Rum, Ginger Liqueur and pomegranate, and then top it all off with some spicy Ginger Ale. It’s a true wonder to drink and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone, especially if you’re a fan of ginger. In fact, I think if they bottled it and served it warm, it would be the best cure for the flu ever.

Allotment, 24 Dale St, Manchester M1 1FY

The Laundrette
If you manage to find yourself in Chorlton or First Street, pop into Laundrette for their Blueberry Gin Mojito because not only is it a lovely tipple, but it’s also perfect for an Instagram post to show off to your mates. This bad boy is crammed full of Portobello Road gin, blueberries and mint, as well as a healthy dose of Blue curacao to give it a belting blue colour – like something James T. Kirk would drink while on the piss, necking some alien on the bridge of the Enterprise.
