Following support and calls to action from Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham and Greater Manchester Night-time Economy Adviser Sacha Lord, there’s now 20 of Manchester’s finest restaurants taking part in the scheme, which is going to add up to a big Christmas gift to the region’s homelessness and rough sleeping charities.

From fine dining to casual Indian street food, there’s a wonderful range of eating out opportunities this November and December that will give diners the chance to make a difference.

StreetSmart works by participating restaurants adding £1 to all customers’ bills throughout November and December. This is a voluntary contribution and the amount is the same no matter how big the party. The money raised is collected in January and is distributed amongst organisations working to end rough sleeping and homelessness across the city-region.

StreetSmart has partnered with the Greater Manchester Mayor’s Homelessness Fund for the second time this year – working together with the city-region’s Mayor, Andy Burnham, to support his pledge to end the need for rough sleeping in Manchester by 2020.

All the money raised in 2018 will be donated to the Mayor’s Homelessness Fund, which is supporting the new campaign A Bed Every Night, providing accommodation and support to Greater Manchester’s rough sleeping population every night of the forthcoming winter.

“Manchester restaurants have always been generous in supporting StreetSmart and this Christmas we have a really fantastic list of restaurants taking part including some venues who haven’t supported before – we’re delighted to see so many of Manchester’s biggest and best dining names contributing to our campaign.” said Glenn Pougenet, Director of StreetSmart.

“Although £1 per table doesn’t seem a lot it can add up to making a real difference and diners across Manchester can give something back throughout the festive season via more venues than ever this year.”

Last year StreetSmart raised over £17,000 for The Greater Manchester Mayor’s Fund and together, the campaign intends to beat this target in 2018.

The StreetSmart campaign is unique in that 100% of the monies collected go direct to LOCAL homeless organisations, thanks to the generosity of sponsors Deutsche Bank.

In 2018 this money raised by the diners and restaurants of Manchester’s helped to make possible the, often lifesaving, projects and work of organisations including The Booth Centre,  Barnubus and The Wellspring.
