I was once lucky enough to pay a visit to the Soho House on Sunset Boulevard in LA. I was really rather drunk when I arrived, and seeing the hoity toity of Los Angeles (and a few celebs) enjoying a pint alongside a scumbag from Oldham was a very enjoyable experience indeed.
If you’ve never heard of Soho House then don’t worry – I’m here to help inform you because I was the same a couple of years ago – as private members clubs have never really penetrated Manchester, with previous examples in the city never really taking off.
First opened in 1995 (in Soho in London), the idea behind Soho House is simple – to provide a stylish, exclusive space for it’s members – be that a bar, restaurant, events spaces and even hotels – all solely for the enjoyment of members.
There are now 27 ‘houses’ across 10 countries over the world, and it looks like Manchester is set to be next as a license application was submitted to the council last week.
The new Soho House will be located on the top floors of the new Mollie’s Motel and Diner at the Old Granada Studios site on Quay Street. The space will also incorporate an external rooftop bar and swimming pool area, as well as the main bar and restaurant.
Details are very sparse at the moment, but you should expect it all to look pretty impressive, and with memberships ranging from £600 to £1,400 per year – this will perhaps become the swankiest and most exclusive bar in the city.
Keep an eye out for developments and images and details over the coming months. If you want to get your membership all sorted – here you go…
