Last night was the award ceremony for the CLASS Bar Awards, hosted by the influential Class Magazine, and one of Manchester’s cocktails bars managed to bag themselves the coveted ‘Bar of the Year’ Award.

That bar is, of course, Schofield’s Bar on Little Quay Street, who have made a massive impact on the city since opening during the height of lockdown in 2020. Generally considered by many to be the best cocktail bar in the city, they’ve really set the bar high for the rest of Manchester’s venues to follow.

They actually not just won the ‘Bar of the Year’ award though, but they also won the ‘New Bar of the Year‘ award too – very impressive indeed!

This summer will see Joe and Daniel, the brothers behind the bar, launch STERLING BAR in the old vault underneath the Stock Exchange Hotel, with the help of leading wine expert James Brandwood.

It’s set to become home to an exciting new cocktail bar with a fantastic wine programme, and another string to the brothers’ bow – alongside Schofield’s and ATOMECA on Deansgate Square.

Also winning from Manchester last night was Elena Wright from Mecanica in the Northern Quarter, who bagged herself the ‘Emerging Bartender of the Year‘ award! Congratulations Elena!

Positioning itself as a “gimmick-free, classic cocktail bar with outstanding service and extraordinary drinks” Mecanica has certainly impressed in the short time that they’ve been (allowed to) open. A ‘No-tel‘ it’s a hotel bar, but without the hotel – serving up an impressive menu of nostalgic ‘classic’ and curated ‘original’ cocktails.

The bods at the CLASS Awards have yet to provide a full rundown of the winners for the night, probably because they’re all sporting some serious hangovers this morning. You can follow them on their Instagram though for up-to-date info and news…
