Following the runaway success of its debut in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, Kahlúa, the original Mexican coffee liqueur, today announces its innovative Salon de Kahlúa takeover experience (this was the second floor of the Kahlúa Coffee House) is set to appear at the city’s first coffee festival later this month (28-30th June).

Salon de Kahlúa, a speakeasy style creative drinks experience inspired by the unique heritage of Veracruz, Mexico, was devised in collaboration with local mixology wizards The Liquorists and hospitality favourites Teacup on Thomas Street. Its original and classic coffee inspired cocktails and free total sensory cocktail masterclasses proved such a hit the innovative takeover enjoyed an extended two month run through April and May at the Market Restaurant in the Northern Quarter.

Now Salon de Kahlúa is set become a highlight of the Chorlton Coffee Festival when it takes over the garden at Morley Cheek’s on Barlow Moor Road On Friday 28th and Saturday 29th June. The Liquorists will be recreating the buzz of the original Salon de Kahlúa speakeasy, crafting a range of exclusive coffee themed cocktails with a twist to challenge the senses – the drinks, such as the Americano, cappuccino and flat white, look like classic barista style coffees but taste completely different; these are cocktails in disguise.

The Liquorists hugely popular FREE interactive masterclasses will be back as part of the Salon de Kahlúa at Morley Cheek’s experience. Aspiring mixologists will have their senses put to the test during blindfolded tasting sessions which explore Kahlúa’s unique heritage. Masterclasses will be held at 18.30 and 20.30 on Friday and Saturday and include a bespoke signature Kahlúa cocktail. *Bookings can be made for up to 10 people, guests must be 18 or over to apply and spaces are limited.

The brainchild of Canadian-born Lorelei Loveridge, Chorlton Coffee Festival is thought to be the first of its kind for the city. More than thirty cafes, bars and restaurants are set to take part, hosting events and coffee-based drinks specials. Cafe events include a barista competition, a poetry workshop with Chorlton-based published author, Rosie Garland, an intimate gig performance from Kirsty Almeida, and a special showing of Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on Sunday afternoon. The Saturday ‘hub’ at Chorlton Central Church will culminate in a film festival, showing Black Gold, a documentary about fair-trade coffee and various short films focusing on international cafe culture, hosted by international film festival curator, Dale Taylor.

Commenting on the announcement, festival producer Lorelei Loveridge said: “It was such a hit in Manchester; we’re thrilled that Salon de Kahlúa is coming to the Festival, offering a creative, fun and informative spin to the coffee experience. We hear the blindfolded masterclasses are a must.”

Lorelei is working with assistant producer Hannah Davies, a barista trainer and coffee industry expert, along with a team of passionate volunteers to bring Chorlton Coffee Festival to Manchester. The festival is mostly free to attend, while entrance to the festival hub will cost £3 for adults and £1 for children.
