Strawberry Pavlova
The White Hart at Lydgate
Kate and I ventured to the North this week to The White Hart just outside Oldham in the picturesque village of Lydgate. Now, this is a pretty well-known pub, with more than one mention in the infamous Michelin Guides so we know it was bound to be special. A stand out star was the Pavlova- a delightful combo of sorbet, meringue shards, homemade marshmallow, Chantilly cream and basil. It was fantastic, and I am not even a big dessert guy. – Rikki Chan
Chicken Wings
Porta Altringham
My favourite food in the world has to be chicken wings and so whenever I see them I simply must have them. Me and the Mrs were at the lovely Porta in Altringham last weekend where I got myself some wings and they were great. Succulent and juicy and cooked in a smoky paprika sauce of which there was plenty for me to lick off my fingers after, which everyone knows is the best bit! – James Barker
Salmon fillet
Kala
I can’t believe I have only just made it to Kala this week- utter madness. Having been a patron of Usher’s places for a number of years, I knew what to expect and it certainly delivered. I went for a fresh pan-fried salmon fillet with a sourdough crispy-top sat in a broth of fennel, mussels and citrus. It was just what I needed on a muggy day and made an excellent light lunch with a cheeky glass of mid-week vino. – Kate Tighe
Thai Zucchini Noodles
The Bay Horse Tavern
I popped into The Bay Horse this week and wanting to be a little bit healthy I spied their salads and settled on their Thai Zucchini Noodles. They’re a bit of a move from the usual British pub fare you’d expect in there but it was brilliant nonetheless. It comes with red cabbage, carrots, peanuts and a soy sauce dressing. I’d definitely recommend it – especially if it’s hot outside. – Jake Hardy
Level-Up Burger
Firebird Hope @ Festival Square
We took a lunch trip to MIF’s Festival Square and tucked into Firebird Hope’s chicken burger. It was… terrific. – Joe Wilson
Lobster Mac & Cheese
Hawksmoor
Kate Tighe and I ventured down to the brilliant Hawksmoor this week to explore their seafood offerings and what a treat it was. We tucked into oysters, scampi, a massive bit of bream and a rather impressive crab coleslaw but my personal favourite was the Lobster Mac & Cheese. It was the stringiest bit of mac and cheese I’ve ever experienced in my life and adding lobster to it elevates it into the upper echelons of mouth pleasure. – Ben Brown
Pineapple Tepache Berliner Weisse
Cask
Finding a delicious new beer is a borderline religious experience. When I took my first sip of this outrageously delicious Pineapple Tepache Berliner Weisse by Creative Project on a sunny day at Cask this week, my eyes rolled back in my head and I started speaking tongues. No really I did. It was THAT GOOD. Eventually, I became more lucid and I began to really appreciate the beer for what it was – sour, light and with a delicate fruity undertone, this was everything I wanted in a beer and more. – Kate Tighe
