Gluten free pies for Coeliac Awareness Week with Pieminister

Everyone loves a good pie. I don't think I've met anyone in my 32 years on Earth who doesn't enjoy eating a tasty hot steaming pocket of pastry stuffed full of meat or veg or cheese while watching Martin Offiah score a try against St Helens or Andrei Kanchelskis smash a free kick into the top corner past Mark Bosnich.

Everyone loves a good pie. I don’t think I’ve met anyone in my 32 years on Earth who doesn’t enjoy eating a tasty hot steaming pocket of pastry stuffed full of meat or veg or cheese while watching Martin Offiah score a try against St Helens or Andrei Kanchelskis smash a free kick into the top corner past Mark Bosnich.

There can be issues though. If you have any particular dietary requirements you’d probably struggle with a pie – not only are they full of meat or cheese, there’s also that buttery pastry to contend with. It’s at this point where pie making legends Pieminister have stepped up to create gluten free pies that Coeliacs can really get their teeth into.

It’s apparently took months of rolling, mixing, baking and tasting before Pieminister felt ready to launch their gluten free pie range. The pies have even triumphed in the Great Taste and British Pie Awards; with the Gluten Free Heidi scooping the top 2016 British Pie Award as Free From Pie Champion.

There’s three of the beauties available at Pieminister’s café on Church Street:

  • The Moo (British beef steak & gluten free craft ale pie)
  • The Heidi (Somerset goat’s cheese, sweet potato, spinach & red onion pie)
  • The Free Ranger (Free range British chicken & Wiltshire ham pie with Leek & thyme)

So as part of this week’s Coeliac Awareness Week (8th – 14th May), Pieminister have joined Coeliac UK’s Gluten Freevolution serving up three award winning pies and promoting a gluten free menu in their restaurants to support the eating out campaign. Head on down to the Church Street café and give them a try!
