Stockport’s Merseyway Shopping Centre has gained a bit of a bad reputation over the years, often referred to as a ‘dump’ in need of a facelift, but with the recent retail and hospitality redevelopments taking place on the Underbanks – the centre has risen in popularity.

It’s everything you know and love about a British shopping centre; with a lingering scent of Mcdonalds in the air, a random kids funfair ride plonked outside a Poundland and an ageing speaker system blasting out covers of 80s classics, but now The Coffee Block is about to bring a breath of fresh air.

The Coffee Block is owned by Stockport local, David Howarth. With 25 years’ experience in the hospitality sector, David aims to provide incredible coffee and service ‘for the block we live on’, catering to the Stockport community in a contemporary environment with a laid-back, rustic interior.

Speaking of the new opening, David said: “I’m a local lad who has grown up in Stockport, and after achieving 25 years in the hospitality industry, I thought it was time to take the leap and find my own place – and where better than my hometown!

“I am so excited to open our doors to the Stockport community. This has always been a dream of mine and I aim to put Stockport on the coffee map. Independent retailers have a place on the high street and Coffee Block will be in the heart of Stockport’s community.”

Victoria Nichol, Merseyway centre manager said: “Merseyway is committed to supporting local, independent businesses so we’re delighted to welcome Coffee Block to the centre. This new addition to our tenant mix will enhance our food & beverage offering and we can’t wait for them to open their doors!”

The Coffee Block will join a host of newly opened businesses joining Stockport’s exciting, ever-expanding independent scene. Most recently, sustainable retail store, Emiko Studios began trading on Great Underbank, alongside The Spinn Off – a brand new neighbourhood bar serving a great selection of craft beers and cocktails.

Coffee Block will open this bank holiday weekend.
