It was back in August last year that we first heard the whispers of Gordon Ramsay’s Lucky Cat heading to Manchester. Fast forward a year later and the Asian-inspired restaurant has finally opened at 100 King Street, which was formerly the grand art-deco Midland Bank and also housed Jamie’s Italian before its closure in 2019.
Bringing an “Asian eating house and vibrant late-night lounge, inspired by the drinking dens of 1930s Tokyo and the far east”, Lucky Cat already has a site in London’s Mayfair. Inside the new Manchester space, diners will find a three-storey restaurant characterised with high-ceilings and regal purples and greens designed by Russell Sage Studio.
Devised by the sweary TV chef himself, the menu at Lucky Cat is heavily influenced by Japanese cuisine, with sushi, bao, fried rice, lamb larb, Korean spiced black cod, and short rib phat phet on the menu amongst other things.
Those making the trip will also get to enjoy a menu of cocktails with added surprises, including a game of chance in which the gin in your ‘Lucky Negroni’ cocktail is determined by the roll of a dice. Other drinks on the menu include the Okinawa Margarita, Nori Martini, Ureshi and Sozu that’s made with Roku Japanese gin.
Lucky Cat Manchester is open Tuesday – Wednesday 12pm – 12am and Thursday Saturday 12pm – 1am. The restaurant is closed on Sunday and Monday.
