To help embrace the new year challenge of going vegan for a month as part of ‘Veganuary’ the regular city centre street food event will be supplying the usual top-notch street food, with the complete absence of animal products.

The event has even expanded to a three-day fest this year in the face of an incredible growth in the popularity of both veganism and a flexitarian approach to eating.

According to research, 91% of the nation is now adopting a flexitarian approach to eating, with more than a third of evening meals now containing no meat at all.

To really show off how amazing vegan food can be a fantastic selection of traders have put together special vegan menus including freshly fried fish and chips from Hip Hop Chip Shop, gooey mac & cheese from Mac Daddies, piles of mezze from The Ottomen, handmade dumplings from Oh Mei Dumpling plus French patisserie from Chou Choux and some jaw-dropping bakes from the legendary Bake-O-Rama.

On top of this, there will also be a mini food produce market selling locally produced pies, pasta, butters, cheeses, pickles and ferments to take home.

Alongside the grub, there will be 14 lines of 100% vegan beers from local breweries on cask and keg plus the usual selection of wines, ciders, handmade sodas, soft drinks, hot drinks and spirits.

Jules Bailey, director of GRUB said “Seeing the growth of veganism this year has been brilliant and it’s been amazing to see Manchester become the vegan capital of the North. We want to do our bit in showing everyone you can eat cracking, tasty food and have a good knees up at a vegan food fest and that’s why we’re doing ExtraVEGANza again this year!
