Today has been the Oscars for foodies.

This morning the Michelin Guide revealed their stars for 2022, and, even though there wasn’t much in the way of news for Manchester (except the fact that Mana have retained their star), something unprecedented happened up in Cartmel on the edge of the Lake District.

L’Enclume has now become a 3-Star restaurant, the first to do so outside of London (and Bray) in the entire 49 years of the UK Michelin Guide. A huge congratulations to Chef Patron Simon Rogan and his team at this truly outstanding Cumbrian restaurant.

The Guide explain how “great cooking starts with great produce – and when a restaurant has its own farm then you can be sure the ingredients are exemplary.”

Noting the restaurants strive for sustainability, the Guide notes how the venue has completely “immersed itself in the Lake District and follows a very strong sustainability ethos” – a model for others to follow.

They also praise Simon’s “constant striving for improvement and his desire to enhance his guests’ experience with a little refinement here and a tweak there.”

“The result is that L’Enclume has matured into a proud and highly accomplished restaurant.”

The past 12 months has also seen Simon team up with Kendal College to launch a Culinary Academy, and 18-month course which includes vital work experience – grafting at one of his restaurants for 4 days a week.

Taking its place amongst one of the very best restaurants in the world, this news is also massive for the North West in general, cementing the region as a true food and drink destination.

The awards have also seen two more restaurants in the North West gaining a star; The Barn in Aughton and the Dog & Gun Inn in Skelton, whilst the excellent Moor Hall has added a Michelin Green Star to their already well-deserved 2 stars.

If you manage to secure yourself a booking at L’Enclume at any point soon – you’re in for a treat and we’re TOTALLY jealous.
