Mackie Mayor is getting a brand new cocktail bar. Stray will be taking on the corner plot of the Northern Quarter/Ancoats food hall from next month.

The concept behind it will be simple – ’uncomplicated, well executed cocktails’, say its founders, who will be slinging the spirits from November 3.

They’ll be taking up the unit formerly filled by Atkinson’s Coffee on Eagle Street, and will be bringing their own take on some of the classics.

There will also be a list of low and non-alcoholic cocktails, including a non-alcoholic margarita and a mocktail reminiscent of a glass of ‘pet-nat’ sparkling wine.

Ingredients will be locally sourced as much as possible, while all its cordials and unfusions will be made in-house.

Among the cocktails that will be available on opening – which will make up its ‘Led Astray’ menu of signature drinks – will be the ‘Tomato Margarita’, made with tomato vine tequila, mezcal, helios tomato, agave, acid blend and lime oil

Also on the menu will be a rhubarb and pine gimlet, with gin, rhubarb and pine cordial, Pineau des Charentes and Lime.

Finally, there’s a Fig Leaf Pisco Sour, with Pisco, fig leaf, pear, orange blossom, lime and fizz.

Stray will be joining some of the best indie food vendors in the city at Mackie Mayor, which opened in 2017, reinventing the former Smithfield Market Hall.

Currently trading from the market are the likes of Pico’s, Honest Crust, New Wave Ramen, Tender Cow, Mumma’s and Chilli B, with drinks coming from Reserve Wines and the Blackjack brewery.
