The winning bars that stunned the judges were the Limited Edition 55% Milk Chocolate and the Limited Edition 78% Dark Chocolate. This prestigious title means that the chocolatier now has a record-breaking total of six gold awards under its belt.
Judging of these bars was undertaken by more than 30 leading individuals from across the sector, all coming together in closed virtual tasting sessions to deliberate over each chocolate.
This year also saw a strong showing from Europe, with Scandinavia winning 30 and new entrants from Germany winning 13 awards. UK producers fared well with 27 awards, including four golds, coming from new and established brands.
The shop is the only known chocolate maker in Manchester that makes chocolate onsite from bean to chocolate bar.
Isabel Carse, Founder and Chocolate Maker at Dormouse Chocolates, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have won a gold at the Academy of Chocolate Awards again. However, we are especially delighted at the fact that two of our limited-edition chocolates made with beans from the Trio Reserve in Belize won a gold.
“We also want to give a massive thanks to the teams at Uncommon Cacao and Mayo Mountain Cacao. Dormouse Chocolates would not have been able to win this amazing award if it wasn’t for these two suppliers who gave us the chance to work with such outstanding beans.”
Last year, Dormouse Chocolates also a won gold title for the the 51.5% Bread and Butter Milk Chocolate they made in collaboration with Holy Grain, the site’s very own sourdough bakery.
Mark Schofield, Centre Director of Great Northern Warehouse said: “The team at Great Northern Warehouse could not be more pleased with Dormouse Chocolate’s terrific achievement.
“Our very own Deansgate Mews site is the ultimate destination for those seeking to immerse themselves in the city’s independent artisan culture. From these wonderful chocolatiers to our new on-site butchers, we are delighted that we’re able to give the space for passionate entrepreneurs to exhibit their craft”.
Dormouse Chocolates has invested in a new machine which increases production capacity by 30%, so it’s safe to say the award-winning chocolatier is going to continue pleasing the nation with even more delicious chocolates.
