Huevos Rancheros. Anyone who has ever visited Mexico will know exactly what that is – even if they have a tenuous grasp of Spanish. It’s a dish that you’ll struggle to forget and something that you’ll find yourself craving once home.
Last week saw The Counter House introduce a brand-new All-Day Brunch Menu – serving up a selection of classic dishes from 9am until 5pm every day. You’ll find Eggs Benedict, Smashed Avocado, Full English Breakfasts and more, but the one that really caught my eye was the delicious slice of Mexico you see before you.
A traditional Mexican breakfast dish, Huevos Rancheros (£9.50) consists of eggs, tortillas, tomatoes, chilli, guacamole and more – all served up in a huge bowl for eating on a break while out toiling the fields somewhere.
It’s been a staple for years, with many restaurants around the world offering up their own take on the dish.
The Counter House offer up the dish in their own unique way. First of all, they create a tortilla ‘bowl’ and then fill it with refried beans, guacamole, sour cream, fried eggs, melted cheddar and salsa. Perfect for breakfast, lunch or even a cheeky little mid-afternoon snack to stave off the slumps.
So get yourself down and give it a try. I’m pretty certain it’s the only place in the city where you can get hold of the dish – and they do it spectacularly well indeed.
