Breaking noods: Modern casual Chinese restaurant Mr Su has announced it will be opening in Manchester. The Leeds-born brand was founded by Jimmy Su, who reportedly has over 25 years of experience in working in top restaurants in Dubai, China and here in the UK.

This new opening is yet another in the wave of Leeds food and drink brands to be imported to Manchester, joining the likes of Bundobust, North Brewing Co, Slap and Pickle, and the still long awaited House of Fu (taps fingers impatiently).

Mr Su’s menu consists mainly of pocket-friendly priced noodles and dumplings. The new restaurant will have a “pick-your-own toppings station” where customers can help themselves to a variety of noodle toppings like duck, chicken, beef, veg and prawn as well as a choice of broths: chicken stock, tomato, seafood, spicy or pickled veg.

But we hear it’s the dumplings that have the crowds gathering at their Leeds venue. Fillings include lamb and Chinese leaves, beef and celery, and mixed vegetable. Served in portions of six, 12, 18 or 24 prices start at less than a fiver for six.

Jimmy Su, co-owner of Mr Su said: “We can’t wait to officially open the doors to Mr Su Manchester to show the city our specialty noodles and dumplings, that have been 25 years in the making. We’re all about great tasting, good-quality homemade noodles and dumplings accessible to everyone which is reflected in our price – traditional Chinese food isn’t meant to break the bank, and we’re incredibly excited to open in Manchester building upon the success of our Leeds store.”

We’re sure this will be a hit at Circle Square where there is a growing student population that will no doubt welcome more affordable dining options. Mr Su joins a raft of recent new openings in the area including the Japanese Tsujiri, the NZ-inspired restaurant and cafe Tahi and the popular Aussie inspired coffee and breakfast spot Federal.

Mr Su opens on the ground floor of the Vita Student Medlock Building at Circle Square on Monday 15 May.
