Transformation of the iconic New Century Hall building in Manchester’s NOMA district is well underway and the brand-new events, music and food and drink destination has announced the first independent food brands to be finding a new home in its ground floor kitchens.

Seating up to 300 people, the 10,000 sqft kitchens will be the beating heart of New Century, hosting six independent food operators alongside New Century’s coffee and grab ‘n’ go concepts.

The first food vendor joining the roster will be Adam Reid with his brand new concept ‘The Butty Shop’.  The chef patron at prestigious Manchester restaurant, The French and two-time Great British Menu winner is bringing an exclusive, more casual concept to New Century.

The Butty Shop aims to bring the British butty back to life, with classic Northern flavours built on the memories of childhood visits to the bakery. Focusing on well-sourced, top quality ingredients, the specialist sandwiches will be available for breakfast, lunch and dinner alongside classic British bakery sides – including pickled eggs and potato salad.

Banh Vi will also be joining New Century with their unique, plant-based Asian food. The South Manchester favourites will be bringing their famed Vietnamese and Thai inspired dishes to the city centre.

Alongside exciting new dishes, guests can expect some of the team’s most popular signature plates that they’ve been honing since their conception in 2019, including bánh mì baguettes, steaming bowls of Pho, summer rolls and many more vibrant plant-based treats.

2021 British Street Food Awards ‘People’s Choice’ winners, BaoBros23, are another addition to New Century bringing their beautiful bao buns to Manchester for the first time. Daniel Woodhead and his father Iain have combined their talents to bring Asian-inspired cuisine with a touch of nostalgia to the North of England.

Starting off as a food truck, their pop up at Riverhead Brewery Tap in Marsden has firmly established them as a must-try destination. Using sustainably sourced produce with a low-waste focus, this experimental team makes innovative, weekly changing bao buns, loaded fries and desserts with Asian inspirations and global ingredients.

This vibrant selection of the best independent food from the most exciting culinary talent will sit alongside local beers, wines, a creative cocktail menu and artisan coffees, teas, juices and smoothies. The space is designed to inspire creativity and collaboration – a meeting place where the best food, drink and ideas flow. New Century will spill outside onto Sadler’s Yard for al fresco dining, drinking and regular events.

As well as the kitchens, the whole of the remarkable Grade II listed building will be reimagined as a new social destination spread across three floors, all of which will focus on nurturing talent, developing skill and creating new opportunities. Each aspect of the New Century ecosystem will complement one another with talent, education, live events and hospitality industries coming together to create an exciting new community for Manchester.

The venue is located between Victoria Station and Shudehill, right at the heart of one of central Manchester’s best connected areas, the 20 acre NOMA neighbourhood.

New Century is expected to open in Summer 2022.
