Looking for somewhere to get your bike fixed that offers brunch and booze while you wait? Then look no further than the brand-new Fallowfield caff, Handlebar.
Launched last week, Handlebar has taken over the former Font venue on Wilmslow road and is serving a menu of locally sourced bakes, coffee, brunch items and, most importantly, a lengthy list of top booze.
Steven Dunbar, the brains behind the business, had a vision to set up a space on one of the city’s biggest bike routes that sees over 2,000 bikes ride past per day.
The venue is slap bang in the middle of student centric suburb, Fallowfield which generally has a core population of cycling pissheads, so where better to open up?
When you enter the space, you’re met with a welcoming ambience of bright pink and yellow, walls adorned with cycling memorabilia and a huge banner that reads ‘live, laugh, lube’. Only true bike enthusiasts will understand the crude pun.
Handlebar also offers a fully functioning repair shop, with the option to purchase upcycled models on site, too, but remember to calm down on the pints if you’re picking up a new pair of wheels. We don’t condone drink driving in any form.
Whilst cycling remains the beating heart of Handlebar, the space also has a diverse menu of booze with unbelievably reasonable prices. You’ll get a pint of lager for £2.75, and cocktails range from £6 – £7, which will surely appeal to non-cyclists, too.
Wine is supplied by Sea Change, a company sourcing ethical and natural wines with all profits going towards protecting the ocean and, a great accompaniment to an afternoon glass of wine, Steven has also said that the cafe’s full brunch menu will be released very soon. For now, though, you can treat yourself to a range of bakes and sweet treats from local businesses.
Upstairs in the venue, Steve has some grand plans for workshops, art pop-ups and open mic nights once the renovation of the venue is complete. Handlebar’s outdoor terrace has a lot of promise for summer, too, with plans to open up the space for alfresco drinking and dining ASAP.
Handlebar is open Wednesday – Sunday 11am – late, with bike repairs available 11am – 6pm.
