A new addition to Altrincham’s burgeoning foodie scene, MOST Bakery is an independent, family-run business that finally opened its doors to the public last weekend.
Set up by teacher turned baker Matt Townley, whose previous ventures include the Hale bread delivery service and baking school, One Mile Bakery, MOST will be an extension of his bread delivery business which boomed during lockdown.
The name is an acronym of Matt’s initials combined with his wife Suze and Daughter Olivia’s, as MOST is an entirely family-run business that will run classes and introduce adults and children to the process of bread making.
Classes will run with sustainability as a focus and launch with “Bread & Beer” in which attendees learn how to make bread using spent grains from the local brewery, and children learn how to make bakes and bites from scratch.
Alongside its classes and workshops, MOST will produce eight different types of slow fermented bread, as well as croissants, cruffins, a selection of cakes and tarts, brownies, cookies and a range of freshly made choux pastries. There’ll also be coffee and a cosy environment for dining in.
Taking to Instagram, Matt said: “I’m so passionate about real bread. All my bread and other products are baked from scratch, with no additives or preservatives, and that won’t change. MOST will be full of freshly baked bread (including sourdough), pastries, sandwiches, cakes, brownies, hot drinks and snacks.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your support on our journey so far. We love Altrincham, there’s some amazing businesses there, and we’re so happy to be joining them. But we especially can’t wait to see you in MOST!”
MOST will occupy the unit that formerly housed Warren’s Bakery and marked its opening last Saturday by giving away 100 free brownies, free gingerbread men and £1 cupcakes.
It was also joined by other local businesses including Kickback Coffee who supplied its very best beans, wines from Reserve Wines and cheeses, butters, smoked salmon and kimchi from more independent traders.
MOST will be open from 8am – 4pm Tuesday – Friday and 9am – 5pm on Saturdays.
