The rise of Sugo Pasta Kitchen, from a much-loved Altrincham neighbourhood eatery to a legitimate food phenomenon is great to see, and this week took a huge leap forward with the opening of their new restaurant in Sale.
Still firmly 100% independent and 100% Manchester-based, Sugo’s new Sale restaurant has been made possible thanks to a Kickstarter that launched in April and managed to raise a whopping £104,000 to go towards it.
Manchester’s pasta-loving community came together to help Sugo raise the necessary cash after banks refused to help – due to COVID. So the Kickstarter was launched, essentially offering gift vouchers that could be redeemed at any of the restaurants throughout 2022.
They absolutely smashed it and the dream has come to fruition – Sugo’s Stanley Square Sale restaurant is now OPEN.
You can expect more of the same outstanding pasta dishes, alongside regular monthly specials (Swaledale Chicken Thigh Cotoletta!), and some wonderful desserts – including one of, if not the best Panna Cottas in the entire city.
The pasta is, as I hope you’re aware, out-of-this-world good. Fresh AF it’s hard to beat their House Sugo (£15); Orecchiette with a beef shin, pork shoulder and nduja ragu and parmesan.
There’s also the sublime Strozzapreti with Broccolini (£13.50); Anchovy butter, house chicken stock, chilli and parmesan, and my favourite – the Swaledale Lamb and Pecorino Meatballs (£9) which come with a pea and mint ragu and ricotta. Absolute magic.
Oh, and then there are the natural wines to go with it all and Grappa (£4), which every Italian meal should finish with.
In other words, it’s now open in Sale so go. Go now.
