Pie & Pint for £8.50 at The Bay Horse Tavern

Up here in the North of England, there is nothing that satisfies our endless lust for booze, gravy and carbs quite like a pie and a chilly pint of beer.

History tells us that the humble pie has beginnings in Ancient Rome, but I would beg to differ and suggest instead that is we taught the Romans how it was done when they bedded down over In Castlefield. Credit where credit is due, please.

Anachronisms aside, the point is we love pies up here and the top of our list would be the ones you can get your jaws stuck into over at The Bay Horse Tavern.

Choose from chicken & broccoli, Mushroom & leek or good ol’ steak and ale all served with a side of gravy and your choice of chips or creamy (and I mean CREAMY) mashed potatoes.

I have tried all three in various combinations, you know just to be impartial and all that, and I have to say I couldn’t choose my favourite. The pastry is just delicious and lies in that sweet spot somewhere between buttery and crumbly that just leaves my mouth watering.

And just to make it that little bit better, if that is possible, you can bag one of these and a pint of Bay Horse Gold ale or Bay Horse Pilsner for £8.50. It doesn’t get much better than that.
