MasterChef winner and guru of Mexican street food, Thomasina Miers, will be appearing at the 20th Manchester Food and Drink Festival on Saturday 7th October at 7.30pm with a banquet at the Mayfield Depot.

Thomasina and Wahaca’s feast will involve a five-course dinner comprising traditional Mexican dishes such as agua chile negro with scallop, bitter orange and habanero; quesadilla with four cheese and forage herbs; salsa verde and seared venison with Tihuana sauce, as well as vegetarian options. Lucky diners will also get to sample Olmeca Altos tequila on arrival.

The Day of the Dead themed night will include a traditional Mexican interactive performance, face painting and music provided by a Mexican/Day of the Dead inspired DJ.

Currently home to the rather brilliant GRUB Mcr the Mayfield Depot will be transformed for this banquet into an extraordinary dining room and MFDF will provide a one-off chance to eat and drink in this historic venue.

Thomasina will also be carrying out a very special demonstration at the Festival Hub on Albert Square on the same day (7th October) at 2.00pm where she will also signing copies of her new book ‘Home Cook by Thomasina Miers’.

Commenting on the banquet and Thomasina’s appearance at the Festival, Phil Jones said, “I’ve been a fan of Thomasina’s work since she first came to prominence and won MasterChef back in 2005, and it’s an absolute pleasure to welcome her to the Festival during our special 20th anniversary year. Tickets for the event will be selling like hot tacos so my advice is to get your ticket sharpish. The menu for the banquet is amazing and I can’t wait to tuck in!”

Thomasina Miers added, “I am so delighted to be part of the Manchester Food and Drink festival this year, not only demo-ing recipes from my new book but also cooking up a storm with Wahaca at an underground banquet that is sure to be a wild fiesta…”

Tickets for the banquet are priced at £55 and are available here:
