Acclaimed tapas restaurant, El Gato Negro, has injected further flavour into its menu with a number of exciting new dishes. The menu refresh, developed by Chef Patron Simon Shaw, sees several additions to the tapas menu. New dishes include pig cheeks with parsley root and apple puree, and morcilla, fillet of hake with jamon, peas, broad beans and asparagus and spiced aubergine with onion confit, fritarda sauce and lavosh bread – Middle Eastern flat bread.
Making a return to the menu for summer is the chargrilled onglet steak with patatas a lo pobre and gillardeau oysters with yuzu juice, wasabi tobiko and pickled cucumber – both popular favourites. For those on limited time, a new lunchtime menu ‘Rápido’ features some of the restaurant’s most popular dishes, from Catalan bread with olive oil, garlic and fresh tomato, tiger prawns with chilli, garlic and lemon butter and chargrilled sweet potato with mango, chilli and yogurt dressing all served in express time. The ‘Rapido’ menu is available Tuesday-Friday lunchtime.
Speaking on the menu refresh, El Gato Negro’s Chef Patron, Simon Shaw said: “I’ve really enjoyed developing this menu and experimenting with new combinations. Manchester is all about creativity and we want our menu to reflect that, inspiring our customers to try something new. We’re also pleased to introduce the ‘Rapido’ menu for those with limited time looking to enjoy a quality lunch.”
The new menu which launched this week follows news that the King Street restaurant’s top floor is now available for private hire. Complete with its own bar and retractable roof, the location makes the perfect setting for unique and memorable occasions, catering for up to 60 seated guests or 100 standing.The restaurant is also looking forward to welcoming larger parties of up to 16. El Gato Negro has received critical acclaim since opening its doors in February 2016. The restaurant has since been crowned Newcomer of the Year at the 2016 Manchester Food and Drink Festival Awards and City Restaurant of the Year at the Lancashire Life Food and Drink Awards. Furthermore, the restaurant was listed in the National Restaurant Awards Top 100 in the UK alongside Manchester House and The French, and is the only Manchester restaurant to receive a Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2017 – the special recognition was awarded to the restaurant for offering exceptionally good food, at moderate prices.
