Manchester has an impressive number of excellent restaurants and Wood Restaurant, the fine dining operation from Masterchef winner Simon Wood, often comes up high on the city’s ‘best of’ lists. But if your budget is more than Lambrini than Lanson, you still have a chance to try the kinds of dishes that you’d find at Wood by attending Simon Wood’s upcoming event at The Manchester College.

On 22 March, Simon will be working with students from the college to help them to create his menu in their training kitchens. The front of house students will then serve the dishes to guests at the 1853 restaurant at their shiny new city centre campus near Manchester Arena.

The Manchester College says events like these are crucial to safeguard the future of the hospitality industry. They give students the work experience of running a real restaurant service with the support of an esteemed celebrity chef and accomplished local employer.

The Chefs’ Forum Academy at The Manchester College sees different industry experts like Simon come into the college to teach for three hours each week. The college says it is “over the moon” about the meaningful work that Simon is doing with its young trainees. As Patron of The Chefs’ Forum Academy, Simon’s support as a mentor and support the next generation of hospitality professionals is invaluable. The chef has already employed several students from the college and says he will continue to offer jobs in his restaurants to students that he feels show promise.

Catherine Farinha (founder of The Forum) says: “Simons been with us since the beginning and its great to see such an amazing investment in The Manchester College and its students in their stunning new restaurant. We’ve been working with the college for the last five years and its so rewarding to see how much the chefs and students get out of this fantastic partnership which also sees students securing jobs.”
