Most of the world thinks that we cannot cook at all – but if there was one thing to debunk this myth it would have to be the humble Sunday Dinner.
Roasted meats, tatties, Yorkshire puddings and gravy are hands down the most delicious comfort-food in the entire world.
That being said, it can often be hard to go out and find a Sunday Roast in a restaurant which can compete with your mum’s (or your dad’s!). No one is asking you to actually choose between the two of course, because let’s be honest, nothing will EVER compare to a home cooked roast. Although we may have found something pretty close.
I don’t think it’s a secret that Electrik down in Chorlton is a favourite haunt of mine. I love them for their excellent selection of beers. I love them for their fantastic cocktails and I love them for their brilliant One Deck Wednesday specials. I also love them for their delicious Yadda Yadda kebabs – and it seems their Sunday Roast may have just made it to the love list too.
This roast is a little bit different than the standard meat and two veg you’d find in your local Toby Carvery. This bad boy is a sharer roast – designed to be eaten by two people (£25) or four people (£47). And the best thing about it is you get a little taste of everything.
Piled high on the plate is a generous portion of pork, roasted chicken, stuffing, roast beef, yorkies, roast potatoes AND mash- so there is really no excuse for any arguments. On the side, you get honey roasted carrots, parsnips, and fresh greens.
I love the fact that you do not have to choose between your meats with this roast – it really gives you the best of both worlds. I must say as well, the pork was the stand out star for me. It is not something I would usually order, but I just couldn’t get enough of its succulent texture and crispy crackling.
The beef was cooked to perfection and simply melted in the mouth. This was all tied together with the fantastically fluffy Yorkshire puddings, gravy and a liberal dose of horseradish. Last but not least, the chicken was lovely and tender, and the sausage-based stuffing on the side was a real winner.
It doesn’t stop their either, on the side you can get a portion of braised red cabbage (£3) or cauliflower cheese (£3.50) which both make a delectable extra to this already epic roast.
Round this all off with a selection of their stunning cocktails (the Bloody Mary is a must-try!) and a dessert or two and you will have yourself the perfect Sunday right there.
Sometimes the overbearing presence of fantastic world food can make us forget our roots. If you ever feel like this, I want you to get yourselves down to Electrik pretty sharpish, order yourself a Sunday Roast and remind yourself what real British comfort-food really tastes like.
