Rum & Chocolate Tasting Session at Pier Eight

There are a few pairings out there which even the most uneducated palate can put together like sea salt and caramel, rosemary and lamb, cherry and almond or blue cheese and red wine.

However, I bet one combination you never thought of was rum and chocolate. Now, I’m not knocking booze and chocolate together. Where would we be at Christmas without some boozy truffles to see us through til New Years?

I have to say that rum and chocolate isn’t something I have ever heard much about and I am so keen to learn more. Luckily for me, this event at Pier Eight at The Lowry on Thursday 6th September will allow me to do just that.

Although I am unfamiliar with it- I can see how the pairing would work. Rum has a high sugar content with intense spiced caramel notes which can complement the flavours in certain chocolates.

Quality is essential with these two products, and I assure you this event will not entail a couple cubes of Galaxy and some Captain Morgan’s- this is the real stuff. We are talking gorgeous barrel-aged rums and single origin chocolates.

Their expert Mish will take you on a flavour journey and will tell you all about the rum making process and the contrasts between the two flavours- both subtle and brazen.

Mish has chosen five rums, each with distinct flavours and characteristics. The team at Pier Eight have matched these with five delicious chocolate varieties to enhance the flavour – whether it be rich, sweet and fruity like Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva or delicately spicy like Chairman’s Reserve Spiced.

If you are a rum connoisseur, a chocoholic, or a dangerous mix of both, you are going to want to grab a ticket to this event. Tickets are priced at £20 or £15 with the promo code ‘FACEBOOK’.
