Sacha Lord is buying a chippy tea for as many people who want one at a fish and chip shop in Blackley this weekend.

The co-founder of The Warehouse Project and Parklife will be footing the bill at Frankie’s Fish Bar on Hill Lane in Blackley on Sunday 17 November, from 3pm to 7pm.

In a video posted to social media, Lord explained that the move was ‘all about supporting those independent hospitality businesses and giving them the footfall that they really deserve’.

“And what better place to choose than a good old traditional chippy,” he added.

It follows a similar move over the summer, when he paid for hundreds of people to eat out at the Thirsty Korean restaurant in Chorlton.

Roadblock crowds descended on the spot to have their meals paid for, with queues snaking down the street outside the small business, which has struggled since the pandemic.

Lord went on: “On the back of the huge success of my free food and drink event, supporting the Thirsty Korean in Chorlton… it feels like the time to do another!

“The Thirsty Korean saw over 400 people turn up and sadly, because it was table service, not everyone managed to get in.

“I’ve been wracking my brains on how to crack this… and it’s obvious; let’s do the next one in a chippy. Everyone loves a chippy and they’ve had a tougher year than most, where at one point, the oil in the fat fryer was more expensive than petrol.

“I was made aware of Frankie’s Fish Bar, after they recently created an amazing Manchester mural on their wall, including Parklife and Warehouse Project.

“[I’m] hoping this not only gives the chippy and much needed boost… but it also [makes] a lot of people from Blackley happy.”

Frankie’s has been serving its community for over 20 years, and has been previously voted among the best in Manchester.
