The small plates menu was the first thing to have a little makeover just in time for summer. You will find a stunning Burrata (£6.50) served with stewed cherry tomatoes, beetroot and toasted pine nuts which serves as the perfect tart, earthy and crunchy acquirements to the mild, creamy burrata.
Negroni’s are my favourite cocktail ever so you can imagine my excitement when I cast my eyes over the menu and spotted the Strawberry Negroni (£9) at The Counter House.
This was a slightly sweeter and more refreshing version of this classic cocktail which is perfect for Negroni lovers and virgins alike. Gin with Campari and rose vermouth created the base along with a garnish of fresh strawberry and grapefruit zest with delicious results.
If fish is more your vibe, then you will love the King Prawns (£8.50). Cooked to perfection and served alongside a cheeky little chilli, lime and mango salsa – these bad boys are made for Al Fresco dining on sunny days and you won’t be able to get enough.
You will also discover the delicious Pulled Lamb Flatbread (£6.50) served with yoghurt, red onion, pomegranate seeds and a sprinkling of sumac for good measure.
Speaking of sunny days, there is the Vimto Cup (£9). Invented especially for Manchester Day at the weekend, this drink celebrates all things Manchester which takes Gin and combines it with Cassis, Vimto, fresh mint and tops it up with Prosecco. Honestly, it is the perfect drink for hot afternoons which I am sure are on their way (hopefully).
Cauliflower Fritters (£5) are a fantastic choice for vegetarians and carnivores alike. These crispy fritters are full of flavour and spice and served with a lime and coriander yoghurt dip they will be a little difficult to share – so I suggest ordering them twice!
At dinner time, you can get stuck into the Baked Cod (£17). This dish is a perfect example of The Counter House’s healthy-yet-delicious ethos as the fish is tasty and delicious whilst still being kind to your mind, body and soul.
It comes on a bed of giant couscous with sundried tomato and charred pak choi so you can get your greens in too!
Spice fanatics will love the Chilli Margarita (£9). It is like Mexican food in a glass with its delectable mix of tequila, lime, and sugar with additional chilli, lemongrass and coriander. Sure, if you are opposed to the latter then it might not be for you, but if you are a fan of the more aromatic things in life then this drink will knock your socks off.
Finally, keep things light and fresh with the Hot Smoked Salmon Salad (£12.50). This is a slightly more substantial dish which is ideal for a lunchtime or light supper.
The smoky, savoury smoked salmon is paired perfectly with the tenderstem broccoli, red cabbage, pickled cucumber, baked radish and smothered in a simply sublime sesame wasabi dressing. All in all, this little number had to be my favourite on the menu.
The Counter House has got it spot on with their new dishes and drinks. They have summer 2019 written all over them… all that’s missing is the sunshine but let’s stay positive, shall we?
