Founded by father and son duo, Chris and Paul Edwards, the floating restaurant began its journey last year looping the Stockport and Cheshire canals bringing slice upon slice of tasty pizza and divine coffee to accompany any canal side stroll.
Starting a business during COVID-19 wasn’t without its challenges, but The Waltzing Matilda Boat became extremely popular with locals who fell in love with the dainty boat.
It took a short hiatus at the end of last year, but in a surprise social media post, it announced back on the 7th March that it was finally returning for the spring / summer season, armed with its famous pizzas!
It’s the perfect spot to enjoy an afternoon stroll, and what could be better than ending the day on a proper pizza high, too?
You can choose from a classic Margherita (£10), a Marinara (£9.50), Pepperoni (£11), The Swagman (£13.50) with spicy chorizo, n’duja, fresh chilli and finished with hot honey and candied jalapeno, or the Prosciutto Crudo E Rucola (£12) with added fresh chilli, Proscuitto Crudo, Grana Padano cheese topped with fresh rocket and garlic oil. There are weekly special available, too, so keep your eyes peeled for those.
They’ve also got cakes and treats from Boaty Bakes, a North West-based small batch baker who provides the boat with muffins, brownies, cookies and cronuts if you fancy treating yourself to a bit of dessert! And, If you’ve got a furry friend that you don’t want giving you their best puppy dog eyes whilst you’re digging into your Margherita pizza, then The Waltzing Matilda has you covered.
They have a range of delicious, 100% natural dog treats to choose from, including Hare and Hen, Venison and Boar. That’ll sure shut them up so you can enjoy your pizza in peace!
The boat is currently based at High Lane on the Macclesfield canal and you can now sit inside the restaurant, too, as COVID restrictions have been lifted.
It opens at 10:00am every Saturday and Sunday for coffee and bakes, and pizza is served from 2:30pm on Saturday only.
