We've found the drink of the Summer: The Gooch.

It doesn't sound very appealing but my word - it's my new obsession.

As Finest’s Booze Correspondent I usually find myself writing about tinctures, fat reductions and elaborate brandies that passed through Napoleon’s kidneys and is now being flogged for £600 a shot.

Well, this is not the case with the GOOCH. It’s simple. It’s easy. It’s brilliant.

It’s a can of Hooch and Gin. Easy as that.

Let’s start with Hooch, which I think is possibly the first ever alcoholic drink I ever drank. It’s either that or a cheeky little bottle of Woodpecker that my Uncle Tom secretly popped into my lap during a particularly long afternoon at The Lowerhouse in Derker.

But Hooch was a revelation in the 90’s and it began a huge movement at the time in ‘alcopops‘ – something which infuriated Daily Mail readers and even heralded the ever present ‘degradation of Britain’ – much like Minecraft and the EU today.

You had Hooch, Smirnoff Ice, WKD, Reef (bring that back!) and a whole host of brightly-coloured, highly-sugared boozy bottles that were perfect for getting tanked on down the park. What a time to be alive.

Well, you’ll all be pleased to know that Hooch is back and its perfect acting as a mixer to a shot of gin. It’s sort of like the Gin & Bitter Lemon your Aunty Stella used to order down the Social Club but it tastes better and is much stronger.

It’s the summer drink sweeping the city and if you’ve not had it – sort it out!

The best place to get hold of it is at Bunny Jackson’s – as it’s one of their brilliant BUNNY BOILERS – which are available for just £5 during their Happy Hour: 9pm – 11pm EVERY DAY.

(You can also pick up tins of Hooch at Crazy Pedro’s and make your own Gooch there to enjoy alongside a lovely bit of pizza – should that be your bag)
