Salford‘s festival of new music and art returns on Sunday 5 May, once again with a bumper line-up of artists and musicians performing at a host of local venues from Maxwell Hall and St Philip’s Church to Islington Mill and The New Oxford. A firm favourite in the underground scene since its first event in 2005, the annual festival remains a unique staple in the calendar, celebrating the local community’s wealth of creativity, indie promoters and a wild range of local, national and international talent.

This year, stand out shows – among the dozens and dozens on offer – include Super Furry Animals icon Gruff Rhys at Maxwell Hall, Nightbus and Halo Maud at St Philip’s Church, Mali Hayes at the Working Class Movement Library, and muva of Earth at Peel Hall. Elsewhere, there will be DJ sets from the likes of Abnormal Sleepz, Gracie T, Lil’ Minx, Kickin’ Pigeon Julie Wills and Mikey D.O.N., as well as showcases from the likes of Heavenly Recordings, Now Wave and Band On The Wall.

The festival also serves as a great opportunity to try food from a variety of street food outlets including Seitan’s Kebabs, Dim Sum Su, Terra Tacos and Fratelli’s Pizza. There’s also some returning classics with Porta’s Chorizo BBQ on Bexley Square and New Islington Mill residents the Deli Lama. Salford-based Seven Bro7hers brewery will also have a fine selection of their cans across the whole site.
