The Market Mcr is a new venture that will be staging its first ‘Dragon Market’ in Chinatown from 11am – 8pm on Sunday 10 December.

Taking over Faulkner Street car park, the market aims to bring a new lease of life to Chinatown and increase weekend footfall to the area, with exclusive traders serving up food ranging from wood-fired pizzas to Thai cusine, and plenty more to get your taste buds going.

The Dragon Market has been set up by Manchester City Council and April Kennedy, founder of Vanoffee – the coffee van now based in Chinatown, famed for their doughnoffees (coffee served in a doughnut).

April said: “The aim alongside the council is to help rejuvenate the area and increase footfall as sadly since the pandemic the Chinatown community feel the area is left behind. The car park in the past has attracted antisocial behaviour and this is something the council and community want to nip in the bud. Between us, the long term plan is to eventually get rid of the car park altogether!”

Confirmed food and drink traders include Birchwood pizza, Just Gyros, Moo Hatch Burgers, Sunrise Patisserie (pastel de natas), tapas and a Thai food van, as well as The Vakery with a range of vegan bakes.

They also have an alcohol license and will be serving up mulled wine and boozy hot chocolates courtesy of Double T’s Rum (rum, rum hot chocolates and cocktails) and Vanoffee (yes, they’ll have doughnoffee’s available, alongside hot chocolates, with or without booze.)

You’ll be able to shop for unique Christmas gifts as participating traders include artists and artisans, with art by Sam Davenport and Erica Pham, Meis bijoux handmade jewellery, personalised gifts from Gemma, Made by Livi – beanies, hats and candles – and Stationary Mellow Apricot Studio.

For the book lovers in your life, Catalog book store will be on site, and for the pooch obsessed there’ll be a range of dog collars and treats to choose from. You’ll also be able to pick up some festive appropriate decor with wreaths from Florals by Ayla and get a trim in time for your Christmas party from Jiggi the mobile barber. A one-stop shop for all your seasonal needs this Sunday.

The Dragon Market will run regularly – check out The Market Mcr’s socials to keep track of upcoming events and traders.
