Gandalf. Santa Claus. Tom Hanks in Castaway. Teenwolf. Hagrid. All legendary beard wearers. Another bearded geezer you may have heard of is notorious DJ Gareth Brooks, who will be hosting a fundraising event at B.Eat Street on 19th May 2017 to raise vital funds for cancer hospice, The Christie.

Taking a break from smashing out some top hip-hop tunes at Hula, Gareth will be hitting the decks to try to attract hairy-faced Mancunians to a ‘fund razor’ at Manchester’s coolest bar collective, B.Eat Street, with the aim to raise vital funds for The Christie after a recent fire caused millions of pounds worth of damage.

The night is being organised by ‘Beards Against the Cancer’, a group that Gareth created after being treated for the disease a few years back at the hospital. The idea came about after Gareth joked with a friend that he ‘was going to grow his beard until he got rid of the tumour’.

After organising an initial fundraising night which saw Gareth spin tunes alongside local DJ’s Elliot Eastwick, Bucky and Baggy, the idea received worldwide acknowledgement and support from massive celebs such as Michelle Keegan, Tina O’ Brien, Manchester band Elbow and City skipper Vincent Kompany, who all sported ‘Beards Against the Cancer’ t-shirts designed by Gareth as part of the campaign.

Two years later and Gareth is recouping the power of the bearded group to raise further bunce to pay for repairs to the fire ravaged hospital. For this second gig, Gareth will be hosting a night featuring some serious, renowned guest DJ’s. He will also be on hand selling limited edition ‘Beards Against the Cancer’ t-shirts and mugs, with B.Eat Street also donating £1 from every drink purchased on the night to further help the cause.

Gareth said “Christie’s has helped so many people over the years in times of need, and they now need some help back! I am asking every Mancunian, bearded or not, to come and support this important fundraising event and in return, I’ll make sure it will be a party to remember.”

If you fancy showing your charitable side, come and join Gareth and some of his favourite DJ’s for a night of fundraising fun at B.Eat Street on the 19th May from 5pm ’til 2am. Along with a roster of acclaimed DJ’s, supporters will also get the chance to get their hands on limited edition ‘Beards Against the Cancer’ t-shirts and mugs.
