An Indian Flavour of Game and Wine at Asha's

Game has been a key part of chef Ashwani of Ashas' upbringing as snow often cut off his village of Himachal in the mountains of North India.

He and the community would often have to hunt for food and venison is a particular favourite of his family and so he felt it only right to pay homage with a special night where everything on the menu was game.

To start the evening there will be a pre dinner drink in the form of Hiver Honey Beer, which is a real winter warmer beer made with honey exclusively from British Bee keepers.

The first course, Pheasant Samosa is paired with a 2007 Riesling Reserve, a white wine, which is a great match to complement the tamarind chutney and sweet yoghurt that comes with the samosa.

Second up is a Char-grilled Partridge, followed by Venison Khasgi Salan which is paired with a Yarra Valley Pinot Noir – seen as game’s best friend. Game has a really strong flavour and so you shouldn’t have a wine that tries to compete with big flavours. It’s not a competition but a marriage and the Pinot Noir’s job is to play the subtle supporting role.

For dessert is a Chocolate Tart served with almond crumb, winter berry coulee, and chilli ripple ice cream. The pairing here is a 2018 Moscato, and it’s gentle sweetness, slight fizz and strawberry flavours make them a match made in heaven.
