It’s time to dig out the dancing shoes as Manchester’s disco-fest returns to Albert Hall on Sunday 30th April 2017.
The acclaimed night recently won ‘Best Club Night’ at the CityLife Awards 2016 and is renowned for its eclectic mix of old and new soul and disco.
Through combining the greatest records of the disco era with cutting-edge performers, La Discotheque never fails to deliver a musical extravaganza that is just as pleasing to the eye, as it is to the ears.
Providing aural pleasure in the main room this bank holiday will be dance music project Hercules & Love Affair, who will be treating party-goers to an exclusive live performance. Consisting of a rotating cast of performers and musicians, the band will offer an eclectic mix of house music, disco, techno and nu-disco and have been booked just as much for their theatrical performance, as they have for their uniquely futuristic yet retro sound.
Also on the bill for this Manchester mash-up is iconic singer Jocelyn Brown. You may not recognise the name but you would certainly recognise the voice as she can be heard on many of the greatest records of the 70’s. As the voice of classic groups like Musique, Inner Life, Change and many others and the diva behind ‘Somebody else’s guy’, this legendary singer will certainly raise the roof of the spectacular Wesleyan chapel setting.
Another heavy-hitter for the main room is Nicky Siano. A pioneer of the dance music scene in the early seventies, he was the owner/designer/DJ of the legendary dance palace The Gallery, a club that inspired The Garage and Studio 54.
Home-grown DJ Greg Wilson will also be returning for this mammoth night and as his set was regarded as the highlight of the launch party back in November, this news will certainly delight dance fans from far and wide. As a resident of the legendary Hacienda, Greg was instrumental in breaking the new electronic, post-disco records coming out of New York and turning them into a new sound that he dubbed ‘Electro-Funk’.
Finishing off this epic main room line-up will be ‘The Reflex’ who has taken remixes and edits to another level, along with La Discotheque residents ‘Luv Dancin’.
Entertaining the masses way up high in the VIP Bell Tower will be host Stevie Wonderland serving up a celebration of all things disco. On his set list is Gideön (NYC Downlow) who is the founder of the infamous ‘homo disco’ situated on Glastonbury Festival’s south side and he’ll be joined by Red Greg (You’re A Melody) AKA Darren Griffiths who’s highly regarded among disco and soul aficionados worldwide. Completing the line-up will be Jonny X and Stevie Wonderland friends + family.
With stunning pyrotechnics illuminating this awe-inspiring venue along with a visual feast of glitzy dancers and performers, this next instalment is set to be the most stimulating yet. Expect glitter, glamour and the confetti canons to be banging all night long just like the tunes. In typical La Discotheque style the carnival atmosphere will even carry on into the ladies toilets which will be transformed into a micro club for the night, complete with a DJ and prosecco bar aptly named ‘La Piscotheque.’
