Live From The Grill: Next-level All Day BBQ Parties in Manchester

A recipe for success, Manchester culinary institutions Salvi’s, Kitten, The Green Lab, and That Burger Place are taking to rustic grills made by outdoor cooking experts Rescoldo, while the city’s music innovators CEEOW, Prince The Kid, Yung Omz, AK Gramm, and Seigfried Komidashi perform live.

September has landed, but Manchester’s summer is far from over. ‘Live From The Grill’ is a brand new food and music party taking over a city centre square for two days of exceptional eating, cutting edge live bands and on-point DJs. Tickets are free — and it goes without saying this is far from your standard BBQ event.

Hosted by Manchester’s Finest, on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th September 2022 from 12pm on both days, some of the region’s best-loved culinary masters will pitch up at Deansgate Square, showcasing unique dishes guaranteed to make a huge impression for more reasons than the fact they were cooked on open flames using grills provided by Spanish wood-fired cooking specialists Rescoldo, designed by award-winning restaurateurs. So think Wagyu RumpButterfly Prawn BaosFull Seabass or Chicken Yakitori.

Honours are shared between National Burger Award finalists That Burger Place, home of the California Dreaming featuring their signature Big Bob’s sauce (which may just be the best patty and bun combo in our city), The Green Lab’s delectable Bao-BQ, Kitten’s Japanese Robata BBQ Grill, and Salvi’s Italian Grigliata. The latter will be plating up mouth-watering Scamorza cheese, smoked and melted, then drizzled in honey: just one of several traditional Southern Italian street food delicacies on offer — with Salsiccia sausage and Friarielli, AKA Neapolitan broccoli, also on the menu — it’s not every weekend you find these delights in Manchester.

What to expect from Salvi’s Grigliata

To wash it all down there will be a pop-up Aperol Spritz bar that’s also serving wine and Prosecco, Poretti and Corona on draught, Pimms, house cocktails, spritz and shots, and non-alcoholic options available with juices and wellness shots.

AK Gramm / Habitat

The tunes are equally adventurous. Saturday sees the hugely respected Habitat take a break from regular sessions at Off The Square to showcase a broad selection of on-point dance music under the open skies, with founder AK Gramm inviting Prince The Kid to headline with a full live performance.

Yung Omz of Mason CollectiveTone RarriShadeV and Brink will also be here, meaning fans of Amapiano, Afrobeat, Trap, House, Funky, Bass, and Garage couldn’t ask for more.

By comparison, Sunday’s reins are in the capable hands of The Garden, a platform that takes its name from lyricist, rapper and poet CEEOW’s recent album. He’ll top the bill with The Greenskeepers Band, well known for performances at institutions like Jazz Cafe and Matt & Phred’s.

London-based Yoruba sax man, multi-instrumentalist and Afrofuturist Seigfried Komidashi will also take to the stage with a full live ensemble for a set that’s one-part sound installation, another genre-defying immersive music, melding elements of contemporary Classical, Ambient, Electronic, and Experimental.

Seigfried Komidashi

The Beautiful Sinners, will showcase their alternative sound fusing genres that lean into underground RnB, hip hop and indie.

Regular CEEOW collaborators Northern Lights Home complete this forward-thinking day of hip hop and jazz, with DJ Lenny tying it all together.
