Established in 2010, Manchester Day was originally set up to celebrate the city’s creativity and diversity by bringing together local artists, communities and businesses for endless amounts of fun.
It celebrates the pride of the city and echoes what being Manc is all about, in a fantastic explosion of colour, sound and movement. An audience of over 60,000 are wowed by the displays every year, which consists of structures, vibrant costumes and pulsating music and dance that fill the streets of the city every year for one day only.
For 2022, Manchester Day will celebrate its triumphant return for the first time post COVID, with its spotlight firmly fixed firmly on children and young people.
There’ll be a rainbow of colour, sound and culture as youth and community groups from across the city come together to join the Day’s infamous parade through the city.
The parade, which is at the heart of the Manchester Day celebrations, weaves through the city for around a mile – bringing a flurry of happiness and pride along with it!
As ever, music and dance will spill out onto the city’s streets for an afternoon of family fun with food and drink stalls available, too. Prepare to be amazed by an abundance of performances from worldwide communities, along with tastes and flavours from across the continent.
The creative processes that bring the parade to life are curated by Walk the Plank and its skilled team of artists. The group aims to steer and guide organisations involved in the day to cement their ideas in their Mancunian heritage.
Six weeks before Manchester Day, a workshop opens which allows anyone and everyone to come along and take part in crafting the displays, costumes, structures and banners seen on show at the parade. Everything you see will have been put together by some of Manchester’s most creative communities.
