The ‘Re-vamp and Re-birth’ of SELFRIDGES EXCHANGE Beauty Hall
Beauty-lovers are in for a real treat next time they take a trip to Selfridges Exchange in Manchester. As part of a £20 million pound investment, the stores new Beauty Hall has doubled in size to expand upon its previous offering, which was already renowned for its exclusive products, expertise and highly-stimulating experience.

To celebrate the opening Selfridges threw a star-studded launch party where celeb guests included Coronation Street’s Brooke Vincent, Katherine Kelly, Anthony Cotton and Jennie McAlpine. Amy Winehouse’s goddaughter and singing sensation Dionne Bromfield was there performing her hits ‘Yeah Right’ ‘Ouch, and ‘Foolin’’ whilst VIPs were invited to check out just exactly what shoppers have to look forward to.
Manchester’s Finest’s Michelle Eagleton went along to see if the new Hall was worth all the hype.
No longer on the ground floor of the store, the new Beauty Hall has set up home in the basement of Selfridges Exchange. For those of you that think that might move be something of a come down (excuse the pun) you would be truly mistaken. As soon as you descend the escalators you are transported into ‘beauty heaven’, decked out in shiny white with mirrors, glass and fabulous lighting.
Not only are the old favourites still there, such as MAC, Clarins and Clinique but alongside them additions include top brands Crème de la Mer, Kiehl’s, Jo Malone, Suqqu and RMK. There are also a number of exclusives from Illamasqua and Armani, and luxury fragrance collections from Dior, Armani and Chanel – trust me you will be spoilt for choice and your credit card will be doing some damage in less than 5 minutes of you being let loose in this pampering playground.
I tried out the delights of BLINK – a brow, lash and nail bar at the far end of the Hall. Efficient and speedy this is a great place for anyone in need of a quick beauty fix – ideal for city centre workers on a lunch break or shoppers with little time to spare.
I managed to get my eyebrows re shaped, had a ‘flirty’ set of lash extensions put on and an ‘on the go file and polish’ all in the space of 45minutes (and that’s including me chatting their ears off!) Blink use the threading method to get rid of unruly brow hair which is painless and leaves you with less redness over the brow than plucking or waxing. I am now a convert and am in love with my long lashes which I’m told will last for up to 2 weeks…hurrah!
Other treats I discovered were an interactive wall at Lancôme, a multi-panelled LCD screen at Bobbi Brown and, wait for it…the first and only Fake Bake Boutique salon in the UK due to open within Selfridges Exchange Beauty Hall next week (from Oct 3rd).
With something like this in the heart of our city there’s no excuse to not look our best Manchester…so go out there and get groomed!”
Dionne dazzled in a hot-pink Alexander McQueen dress, Jimmy Choo shoes and jewellery by Monica Vinader, which is exclusive to Selfridges.
Jane Sharrocks, Selfridges Exchange General Manager said: “We aim to surprise, amuse and amaze our customers and we have certainly achieved this with the opening of the new Beauty Hall. It has been an extraordinary project from start to finish and we held the party to thank our loyal customers and introduce the destination to the city of Manchester. It has been a wonderful night.”
