Teaming up with Low Four studios, Stay Fresh brings you exclusive studio sessions from the famous Old Granada Studios (where Tony Wilson gave Joy Division their first TV break) with the bands as anticipation builds for the show itself.
So who’s on the bill? Well… there’s the crazy anarchic post-punk sounds of MOLD, with a sound described as ‘fucking mayhem’ by Louder Than War. There’s the slick synth-pop subtlety of one of the city’s most promising acts, KOALAS, whose recent single ‘Home Heart’ took influence from the likes of Caribou, Boards Of Canada, and maybe even a little Bronski Beat. We’ve got cerebral noise pop from all female four piece ILL – a band named by The Guardian as “grotty, wild, weird… and fiercely political”, in their ’50 future rising stars’ feature.
Stay Fresh Fest! also have earnest alt-rock outfit Easy Kill topping the bill and launching their new album ‘Melanscholar’ at the show. The record is coming out on the prestigious Fierce Panda label on 22nd September! Aside from glowing national press coverage, they’ve also been getting spins from Huw Stephens and Steve Lamacq just in the last month, as new single ‘Phantom Pain’ whets the appetite for the new record.
One of Manchester’s newest bands, SPLUTTER, are playing a rare show having only formed in 2017 and representing the other side of the pennines are Leeds three-piece DRAHLA, signed to Witchita. Their recent single ‘Faux Text’ spurred them on to a support slot for The Cribs album release show at Belgrave Music Hall.
Having been locked away in the studio Wedding will be bursting onto the stage too. Beginning in Berlin as the project of songwriter Thomas Craig before relocating to Manchester to write and record their debut album ‘Mania Whatever’ on Maternal Voice, the band have been praised by La Blogotheque and So Young Magazine amongst others. Influenced by the likes of Pavement, Sebadoh, Sonic Youth, and Dinosaur Jr, SLOWHANDCLAP, complete the bill. Their recent single ‘Vertigo’, which came out in May is an absolute belter you do not want to miss live.
