Looking to raise money for Withington Walls, an ambition project set up to make Withington the capital of street art in the UK, this Friday 4th October sees a massive party hit the streets and venues of the South Manchester suburb with – WITHINGTON BY NIGHT.
There’ll be a whole host of events on throughout the evening including live street art, late-night shopping, live music, DJs and even a pop-up pub in Withington Public Hall Institute.
There’s something for everyone as all of the best Withington venues get involved including Wilderness Record Store, Solomon’s, The Vic, Boho Utopia, Fuel, The Albert and Indigo.
Live Music
The music will be kicking off in Wilderness Record Store from 6pm and then moving to Solomon’s later…
6pm – Songs For Walter @ Wilderness – Low-fi solo performer, similar to the style of Bill Callahan.
7pm – Mewn @ Solomon’s – Mewn are a synthesiser driven, alternative rock band. Inspired by the dark sincerity of Timber Timbre and John Lennon, the ethereal electronics of Brian Eno and Portishead and the palpable emotion of Neutral Milk Hotel and The Smiths.
8pm – Mambo Jones @ Wilderness – Mambo Jones is the new funk-based – complete with saxophone – side project of MOLD member Samuel Hunter.
9pm – The Vat-Egg Imposition @ Solomon’s – Leeds-based 5-piece who deliver a set of endearingly eccentric and ridiculously fun indie-punk. Buzzcocks – worthy tunes with a hefty dollop of Frank Sidebottom surrealism.
DJ Sets
Solomon’s will be hosting live DJ sets once the live music is finished…
10pm – POSA – With influences ranging from The Residents to The Birthday Party via Lil B, POSA are a band – originally from London. Now Manchester-based, they’re hitting to the decks for a one-off DJ set.
11pm – Mave – A regular DJ at Manchester’s Peer Hat, it’s vinyl at it’s finest, expect the likes of The Stranglers and Urban Verbs.
12pm – Heart of Glass – A flamboyant club night that takes place around Manchester, always celebrating 1970s Glam, Punk, New Wave, Art Rock and the best of the rest from the 70s and beyond.
1am – Me Gusta – Me Gusta is a multicultural collective based in Manchester, who host regular club nights across the city. World music from continent to continent.
As well as all of this there’ll also be a pop-up pub heading to the Withington Public Hall Institute. The Lock Inn will be serving up Manchester’s finest craft beer and gins for all to enjoy.
There’ll be a range of workshops over at Boho Utopia with a chance to ‘meet the seller’ in their main cafe, as well as an embroidery workshop from 6-8pm PLUS spoken word/open mic from 8-10pm. There’ll also be a Halloween/Autumn card-making by artist Kim Gilham from 5-7pm and from 7-9pm get a personal portrait drawn for you by the one and only Nicola Fernandes at A Curious Collection.
There’ll be discounts + deals galore including: a free bee or glass of wine with any burger purchased from TOAST of Withington, 20% off at Mockingbirds with FREE prosecco + nibbles, BOGOF on smoothies from Fuse, a pizza + a pint for £9 from Solomon’s Cafe Bar. A Curious Collection will be having FREE Prosecco too!
There’ll also be live street art from Jay Sharples and Hammo – seeing as the whole thing is hoping to raise money for street art this seems like a good idea. See you there!
